KS3 Curriculum

Tutor Boost LTD Schemes of Work for KS3 Science adhere to the aims and ethos of the new national curriculum as set by the government (http://www.gov.uk/government/publications/national-curriculum-in-england-secondary-curriculum).

For each year group, appropriate content has been assigned so that all students can achieve the highest levels of achievement at GCSE. Students generally study 4-5 weeks of schooling per Tutor Boost lesson.

KS3 curriculum changes will assist our students to gain the scientific knowledge and skills needed for life in the modern world, to gain entry to and success in further education and to compete in a global job market.

Key differences in curriculum

The focus of science teaching at KS3 is to develop a deep understanding of a range of scientific ideas in biology, chemistry, and physics. Students will begin to see the connections between these subjects and learn some of the concepts underlying scientific knowledge and understanding. We selected the units based on the connections between the topics in each subject area of biology, chemistry, and physics.  The curriculum has been mapped from the start of Year 7 to the end of Year 11 to ensure that all students make significant progress. A portion of the content requires a higher level of knowledge and skills than the previous KS3 curriculum. This prepares students for the new GCSE curriculum. By using the new KS3 curriculum, scientific knowledge will be deeper than before and students will have an opportunity to spend more time understanding key concepts if further time is needed for this.  This study is meant to provide students with a sequence of concepts and knowledge with a focus on developing a secure and deep understanding of the science rather than a superficial level of understanding.
